Rachel and Sean’s ice cream truck wedding was one of my favorites! They were so dang sweet and so much fun to work with! Here are some details about their big day at the Embassy Suites Altamonte Springs!
Rachel and Sean met in Jacksonville, Florida at the Florida/Georgia football tailgate in November 2013. She was attending UF and he was in the USMC, stationed at King’s Bay, Georgia right outside of Jacksonville. They both came to town for the festivities that day, randomly crossed paths in a parking garage and started talking. They ended up spending the entire day together! The first thing Sean texted Rachel after they left that night was “Why do I miss you already?” and she literally (not literally) *died* because she was feeling the same way.
The weekend after that was Rachel’s birthday and also the Marine Corps birthday ball. Sean left the ball early and drove down to Gainesville in his dress blues to surprise her. After that weekend (when she finally stopped swooning), Rachel told her Mom that she was gonna marry him.
They dated long-distance for four years while he finished his contract with the Marines. She finished law school at UF. It was challenging and they dealt with varying degrees of distance. Sean was moved to a new duty station in North Carolina. He also did some training in California and a six-month deployment to Sicily. It turned out that his last day on active duty was the day before Rachel’s law school graduation. He drove straight from North Carolina to Gainesville and was able to be there to watch her graduate!
Christmas 2017 was Sean’s first Christmas as a college student. He had a lot more time off than he was used to having in the military. He took the opportunity to visit his family in Pittsburgh, PA. Rachel was working and couldn’t take that much time off. So she flew up to Pittsburgh to join Sean for New Year’s Eve! Sean picked her up at the airport. When Rachel saw him she could tell something was up because he was wearing his nicest shoes.
He got down on one knee and brought out the ring and said “I had a whole speech planned but I just can’t wait another minute… Will you marry me?” and of course said yes and it was perfect! It was just them aside from, like, all the other people in the airport, but it was so romantic. They had lots of sad airport goodbye memories from being long distance for such a long time and they love that they have the happiest airport memory ever now. 🙂
The big day was simply wonderful! They got married two days after Valentine’s Day, so red roses were super fitting. One of their favorite parts of the venue was the indoor atrium. The skylights, white gazebo and greenery and a water feature were just beautiful. The best part is that you didn’t have to decorate it at all! My favorite thing was the ice cream truck! From the moment they started planning, they knew they wanted soft-serve ice cream. So an ice cream truck wedding was perfect for just that!
After dinner, all of the guests came outside to see an ice cream truck equipped with music and blasting lights. It was amazing! Guests got to enjoy some sweet frozen treats before heading back inside to dance the night away. It was a perfect ice cream truck wedding!
Go with your gut. Everyone likes and wants different things out of their wedding day so focus on what’s important to you! And if, like me, you don’t have much experience with weddings or planning events, you may be underestimating how much work is involved so definitely consider hiring a professional! I was NOT a wedding planner person, I thought I was going to keep things *so simple* that I just couldn’t imagine needing one but in retrospect, totally couldn’t imagine how the day could have happened without Katie.”
“The first time I ever talked to Katie she was bright and kind and she made my day better that day and every time we interacted after that. Our wedding was perfect and went so smoothly because Katie was somehow *everywhere* doing everything that needed to be done and we are so so grateful. Katie thought of everything. Also I got chocolate ice cream on my wedding dress and Katie pulled me aside and got the stain out before I could stress about it. If you like Harry Potter just think about when Hermione gets the time turner and uses it to fix everyone’s problems and save the day- that’s what BDC is like for your wedding. THANK YOU!”
