At Big Day Celebrations, we love a good love story, whether it’s in book or movie form, but the ones we love most are those of our couples! Nothing brings us more joy than getting to know you individually and as a couple, and incorporating details from your personal journey together into your wedding design to make the day completely yours. Whether this means subtle personal touches like utilizing your favorite colors or more perceptible features like showcasing your dog on the cake, we keep your personalities in mind when designing your wedding.
So when Kristina and Ryan came to us with the idea to weave storybooks and other literary inspired design details into their wildflower wedding, we knew this was a match made in Heaven! They are both book lovers and so we drew upon this to handcraft their dream wedding. We also wanted to celebrate this happy occasion with bright, joyous colors; ones that mirrored the natural wildflowers of Montana.
If you’re a fellow book lover, dream of a vivacious wildflower wedding, or simply want to be inspired by a Pinterest-worthy celebration, keep reading! This wedding story is filled with unique and creative touches that you may just want to steal for yourself!
The setting for this wildflower wedding was none other than the beautiful Great Northern Resort. Situated mere minutes from Glacier National Park with flexible outdoor event spaces, this was the ideal venue for Kristina and Ryan. On the morning of their wildflower wedding, they got ready in the resort’s Two Bear Cabin. There, they set the tone for the day by reading private letters that each of them had handwritten for the other.
Then, they got all dolled up with Kristina stepping into an ivory wedding gown with a sweetheart neckline, off-the-shoulder straps, and all-over lace. The blush sash at her waist beautifully echoed the blush underlay of the dress, giving her a soft and romantic bridal look. To put a twist on tradition, Kristina paired her gown with white Converse sneakers with custom mountain and wildflower embroidery! In sunny shades of blue, green, pink, and yellow, her shoes perfectly matched their wildflower wedding design.
Ryan also put a spin on the traditional groom’s suit! He wore a classic navy blue suit but put his personal stamp on the look by adding a wildflower-inspired tie and pocket square boutonniere. This creative type of boutonniere is one of our favorite recent floral trends! Instead of the traditional boutonniere that is pinned onto a suit lapel, a pocket square boutonniere has floral that stretches across the entire pocket. Florists actually make them so they can simply be tucked into the pocket. No pins required!
Once this duo was picture-perfect, they held their first look before getting ready to kick off the ceremony.
Kristina and Ryan’s wildflower wedding ceremony took place in the resort’s Ceremony Meadow. There, we set a square, natural birch arch with ivory fabric draping and colorful floral sprays. Our team placed a program fan on each chair and set daisy chains on the welcome and unplugged signs.
When it was time to get married, we cued the music and sent everyone down the aisle, including this couple’s beautiful wedding party, dressed in dusty blue and sage green. We adored how Kristina and Ryan allowed each of their wedding attendants to put their personal flair into each of their looks! For example, one person opted for a jumpsuit and others wore mismatched dress styles.
The ceremony was beautiful, as the sun gently beamed down over the proceedings. Another creative element Kristina and Ryan incorporated into their wildflower wedding day was their unique choice of unity ceremony! They had a unity tree ceremony, which meant that they brought a young sapling and planted it using sand from all over the country. Their family members helped pour the sand from Colorado, Minnesota, Delaware, Wisconsin and more into the tree’s pot, symbolizing not only the marriage, but a unity of their entire family.
We can’t imagine anything sweeter to lead up to the moment that Kristina and Ryan said “I do!”
Here’s where you’re going to want to take notes! The newlyweds’ wildflower wedding reception design was simply divine! Under the reception tent, we set wooden king’s tables with ivory gauze runners, assorted bud vases with vibrant floral blooms, a variety of pillar candles and votives, and a multitude of books. We scattered the books down the center of the tables, stacking them and setting some bud vases or candles atop them. This way, we were able to seamlessly weave them into the design.
We also set table numbers inspired by library catalog cards and a wildflower seating chart to help guests find their places at the reception. At every table, each place setting had a rattan charger with sky blue napkin and gold flatware. Last but not least, we set wildflower seed packs at each seat as a favor to each guest.
One of our favorite parts of this wildflower wedding reception was the photo opp area! We brought in a vintage dusty blue sofa to sit next to a wooden bookshelf covered in personal framed photos. For the backdrop, we hung a floral curtain that consisted of bright yellows, pinks, and purples.
Before we revealed this delightful reception space to the guests, they mixed and mingled while enjoying some delicious appetizers! Kristina and Ryan wanted to treat their loved ones to a taste of Montana, so they selected hors d’oeuvres like prosciutto & melon and huckleberry cheese tarts. They paired this with their signature cocktails: a Moscow mule and huckleberry lemon squeeze. Did you know that the huckleberry is the official state fruit of Montana?
Kristina opened the floor at their wildflower wedding reception by giving a welcome speech on behalf of herself and her new husband. Then, everyone sat down to a wonderful dinner served by The Kopper Kitchen. They enjoyed a dual plate of herb roasted chicken and beef roast with balsamic with sides of orzo and broccoli.
The toasts and cake cutting then followed. Let us just say that Kristina and Ryan know how to do dessert! For their sweetheart cake, they had a chocolate fudge cake with chocolate raspberry mousse and chocolate ganache icing. In addition to this, they indulged their guests in an entire dessert table, complete with mini huckleberry swirl cheesecakes, fruit tarts, chocolate chip cookies, huckleberry truffles, and lemon huckleberry bars. Is your mouth watering or is it just us?
This dessert display was so charming with all the colors of the sweet treats combined with the fresh floral we used to accent the table. We especially loved the “Oh Happy Day” banner that we hung across the front of the table and the custom cake topper that depicted Kristina and Ryan reading a book!
The dance floor officially opened for the night when Kristina and Ryan did their first dance to “Heart Beat Here” by Dashboard Confessional. They then did the father/daughter dance and mother/son dance simultaneously and during this song, the band invited guests to join in and “steal” a dance with them! This was another fantastic example of how this couple put their own personal touch on a timeless tradition.
The remainder of the night was marked by the epic dance party led by the MAC Band! Everyone had a wonderful time spinning and twirling on the dance floor, reveling in the joy and beauty of this wildflower wedding day.
And they lived happily ever after!
Kristina and Ryan, oh my goodness, I loved working on your wildflower wedding! You two are such bright rays of sunshine and it was my complete honor to give you your dream day! Congratulations and may your future be infused with as much magic as you had at your wedding!
