A fall wedding in Montana means wide open skies, golden sunsets, and rich, earthy tones that transform the natural landscape. Despite the vastness of Glacier National Park, the crispness in the air and the falling leaves bring a cozy sense of peace, making everything seem more intimate and sacred. This is the snug and cheerful setting in which Hannah and Nathan tied the knot!
Their fall wedding at Snowmoon Ranch featured a beautiful blend of neutral tones that enhanced the surrounding environment. These hues accentuated their fall wedding design from ceremony to reception, as they exchanged vows underneath the expansive Montana sky and then celebrated beneath a clear topped tent strung with twinkle lights. They also had an epic adventure session in Glacier National Park, traipsing among the mountains to capture their newlywed portraits.
Their big day had everything fall lovers dream of: Cozy colors, personal details, natural elements, and a hint of the rustic charm that Montana is known for. As we kick off fall 2025, let’s revisit this heartwarming and awe-inspiring autumnal celebration!
Hannah and Nathan chose Snowmoon Ranch for their fall wedding because of its sprawling 20 acres. And the 360 degree views of Glacier National Park didn’t hurt! It was the perfect place to be immersed in nature while still having all the comforts of home! When designing their wedding, it was important to highlight the landscape as much as possible, draw inspiration from nature, and lean into the cozy warmth of fall. If you’re planning a fall wedding in Montana, use these design tips to celebrate the season and your love:
Fall wedding colors are a must! Hannah and Nathan’s wedding color palette consisted of copper, dusty rose, deep olive green, and white with gold accents. These shades worked well at the ranch because they were rich enough to add a pop of color to the design. However, they were still neutral enough not to distract from the surrounding landscape.
To make this color palette your own, consider adding another accent color, like mustard yellow or navy blue. You may add even more richness into the color scheme with hues like chocolate brown or burgundy.
Incorporating natural elements, like wood, floral, greenery garlands or even live moss, is critical in creating that cozy fall wedding atmosphere. In Hannah and Nathan’s design, we used various wood tones, from the wooden pillars at the ceremony to the wooden farm tables and wooden cross backed chairs at the reception. We wove in other natural details as well, including glass bud vases, glass chargers, linen table runners, and of course, romantic floral and greenery throughout.
Nothing says “cozy” more than soft, golden lighting! Whether you achieve this at your fall wedding with candlelight, twinkle lights, lamps or uplights, lighting is imperative in setting the right tone for the evening.
Hannah and Nathan held their reception underneath a vast, clear top tent with built-in twinkle lights. That meant that as the sun set, the dreamiest lights blinked on. They helped create a positively gorgeous setting to dance the night away!
Here in Montana, we even get the help of Mother Nature herself to achieve the perfect wedding lighting! This was certainly the case for Hannah and Nathan’s big day. The sun cast just the perfect glow and gave way to a jaw-dropping pink and purple tinged sunset that was mirrored in the adjacent lake. Sometimes, the most awe-inspiring moments aren’t planned!
Putting your own unique stamp on your wedding is always a must in our book! We’re pros at weaving in details that showcase your love story and personalities. For Hannah and Nathan’s fall wedding, this meant infusing personal design details. For example, their guest book was a national park photography book called “Roaming America.” This was a nod to their mutual love of travel and nature as well as paying homage to their wedding state.
Personalizing their wedding also meant incorporating extra special moments into the timeline, like first looks with their parents! Before the ceremony, Hannah did a first look with her dad, mom and brother, and Nathan did a first look with his mom. The smiles and emotion on their loved ones’ faces were priceless and truly said it all.
Hannah and Nathan also had a first look with each other after which they exchanged private, sentimental vows (tears were definitely shed!).
These special moments all paved the way for their fall wedding ceremony…
Montana isn’t called Big Sky Country for nothing! On their fall wedding day, Hannah and Nathan exchanged rings and promises on the open ranch with the Glacier mountains and forest trees behind them. Hannah was such an elegant bride in her strapless white wedding gown with off-the-shoulder, floral embroidered sleeves. When she walked, the breeze created gentle ripples in her dress’ train and veil, making her look extra ethereal!
Her bridesmaids rocked deep olive dresses while Nathan and his groomsmen donned classic black suits. All together, this was a stunning wedding party!
After the newlyweds sealed the deal with a kiss, it was time to let loose at the cocktail hour! The Mike Murray Duo struck up a tune, The Kopper Kitchen served delicious apps and drinks, and our owner and lead planner, Katie, bustled Hannah’s gown for the evening ahead.
When the reception kicked off, golden sunlight streamed through the tent’s clear top, illuminating the toasts and the newlyweds’ first dance to “Evergreen” by Teddy Swims. The open air siding of the tent allowed for brisk mountain air to flow through the festivities and for everyone to soak up every bit of the gorgeous views surrounding them. It was like this fall wedding was tucked in between the mountains: A true storybook setting!
Before the night was through, everyone enjoyed dinner and cake together before partying it up on the dance floor with the twinkle lights in full force. Hannah and Nathan shared a private last dance to “Forever You & Me” by the Teskey Brothers before saying their final goodbyes and heading off into their happily ever after.
This fall wedding weekend wasn’t over yet though! The following day, Hannah and Nathan spent their first day of marriage exploring the beauties of Glacier National Park while capturing breathtaking couples portraits. They hiked through the mountains and along the lakeside, soaking in each other’s company and the fact that they were finally married!
Adventure sessions like this are highly recommended in Montana! Not only is it a chance for you to enjoy the national park, but it makes for unforgettable images and memories. When we plan your Montana wedding weekend, we’ll guide you in selecting the right photographer, locations, and timing for your session, so all you have to do is relax and enjoy!
After their wedding, we asked Hannah “What piece of advice would you give to couples planning their wedding?” and she said:
“Find yourself a Katie!! Working full time in a high demanding job, there was not a lot of free time to dedicate to planning all the small and even big items. I am truly very grateful that I found Big Day Celebrations because when it came to the day of, I was able to just focus on me and my amazing friends and family. There were no tears, no stress, no frustration; it just felt effortless. But regardless if you are an out of town bride like myself or local bride that chooses a wedding planner or not, just enjoy the process because you won’t get to this again. Some days may seem stressful, but this is a season of your life that you don’t want to rush and you want to hold on to each moment.”
But wait there’s more! We also asked her “If you could do it all over again, what is one thing you would change, if anything?” and she shared:
“Not a damn thing. I kid you not, about every guest come up to me or my parents and say this is one the best weddings they have been to. The comments ranged from the best venue ever, to the best cocktail hour, to incredible food (high regards for the fry bread I might add), to we are literally clubbing in the mountains right now. Like hell yeah we are and aren’t you glad you didn’t miss it ;)”
Congrats Hannah & Nathan! Your fall wedding was the coziest autumn day and I’m so grateful I could be a part of the fun! You both looked stunning and it was a joy working with you! Cheers to forever together!
