A wedding of any style complements the natural beauty of the Montana mountains well, from rustic to classic to modern! As a Montana wedding planner, we are skilled in creating a wedding color palette and design that best fits your preferences and vision. For Ashley and Tristan’s nuptials, we crafted a mountain microwedding with boho wedding décor!
We incorporated details like pampas grass, macrame, and pops of rust to pull off a seamless boho wedding décor scheme. This was the perfect fit because they chose a ranch as their wedding venue. This wedding was a lifetime in the making, so we also infused in personalized touches to make it uniquely theirs.
This wedding story is for you in particular if:
-You are also planning a wedding with boho wedding décor and need inspiration!
-You are leaning towards having a microwedding, but are still unsure if it’s the right fit for you.
-You want to learn ways to include personalized details into your big day!

Before Ashley and Tristan tied the knot at their wedding with boho wedding décor, they walked through a special journey to fall in love! They have actually known each other since they were in 3rd grade!
They were classmates all growing up, from elementary school to high school, but they weren’t best friends right away. The turning point for them actually came in their senior year of high school when Ashley took the first step and asked Tristan to hang out, seemingly randomly. Their first date consisted of them hanging out at Bass Pro Shop and getting to know each other on a new level. From there, they started talking more and more… and the rest is history!
They now live in the same house that Tristan’s parents built from the ground up and it was definitely meant to be! Ashley expressed:
“I watched him walk down the driveway to his house with his long brown hair with his one blonde birthmark when little did I know that would be our future driveway!”
We are swooning over this love story!
When it came time to propose to Ashley, Tristan had a sneaky plan up his sleeve! He knew that Ashley would never expect a public proposal at a baseball game… so of course, that’s what he did! The couple attended a Cincinnati Reds game with their family and next thing Ashley knew, Tristan got down on one knee right there in the stands and asked her to be his wife.
She was absolutely stunned in the best way possible! After she said yes, Tristan’s mom gave him a shirt to wear that read, “Beer me, I’m getting married!” If that’s any indication, this is a fun family and this would show up later at their wedding with boho wedding décor!
Our favorite part of Ashley and Tristan’s proposal story though is the end. As they were reveling in their newly engaged status, Tristan whispered to Ashley, “We can bring our kids here one day.” SO sweet!
We are so grateful that Ashley and Tristan chose us to be part of their incredible love story! When they first described their boho wedding décor vision to us, we knew this would be so much fun to design. Their wedding color palette was mostly neutral tones with pops of rust and natural greenery.
Their ceremony arch was a wooden hexagon with peach and burnt orange floral sprays and pampas grass accents. This perfectly framed the pond and open field that lay just beyond the ceremony site. We also provided wooden benches for guest seating. We then placed paper cones filled with flower petals on them for their friends and family to shower them with after the ceremony concluded.
Up at the altar, we set a table for their tree planting unity ceremony and laid a rust gauze runner on top of it. This mirrored the runner we placed on top of the welcome table as well.
As an homage to Ashley and Tristan’s love story, we set their 3rd grade yearbook on their ceremony welcome table. We left it open to the page where Ashley and Tristan’s photos were displayed, and Tristan lovingly drew a heart around Ashley’s picture with the caption, “Dream girl.”
Ashley and Tristan’s reception with boho wedding décor took place outside the ranch’s River View Lodge. We set two long wooden king’s tables with matching wooden crossback chairs. Next, we hung macrame on the backs of the newlyweds’ chairs to make them stand out.
We then laid ivory gauze runners down the center of each table. On top of that, we set wooden lanterns, a variety of amber vases, mercury votives, and loose greenery. The floral blooms were rust colored, complementing the floral from the ceremony arch and Ashley’s bridal bouquet.
We also set a rust table runner on the cake and dessert table. Their cutie wedding cake was a simple one-tier, white cake. We accented this with ivory and peach blooms and a sprig of deep emerald greenery. Once the reception started, we also set Ashley’s bridal bouquet on this table to provide even more depth and color to the table! We love repurposing wedding décor whenever we can!
Last but not least, we should mention the great white tent that arced over all these reception boho wedding décor pieces. Since Ashley and Tristan had an outdoor reception, we wanted to ensure that they had some shade as well as insurance in case it rained that day.
Thankfully, there wasn’t a rain cloud in sight that day, and we had the most gorgeous, sunny day for their celebration!
Every component Ashley and Tristan’s big day contributed to their boho wedding décor scheme! From Ashley’s rust colored ring box to her wedding attendants’ rust getting ready outfits and rust gowns, this beautiful bride was intentional about maintaining the theme throughout the entire wedding!
Ashley’s sheath gown was sleek and classic in design. It had floral details on the bodice and train, but then had a clean white satin skirt. With her blonde hair in waves and her white tulle veil neatly pinned in her hair, she was an absolute vision on the day-of! Which is why it was no surprise that when she did her first look with her dad, he couldn’t help but tear up! This sweet and tender moment between father and daughter was the perfect way to start the day.
While Ashley captured photos with her dad and best friends, Tristan donned his tan suit with rust floral and pampas grass boutonniere. He then took a moment to open a special gift from Ashley: a brown leather-bound journal in which she inscribed a private message just for him.
Ashley also received a special present this morning. Tristan’s mom gifted Ashley a handkerchief with an embroidered message, welcoming her officially into their family.
Cue the waterworks!
As a wedding planner and coordinator, it was not only our job to design a boho wedding décor scheme for this couple. Part of our job also entails lining up the wedding party before they walk down the aisle. We also cue the music when everyone is ready. Since the couple’s Aunt Jessica would be officiating the ceremony, she walked down the aisle first shortly followed by the groom himself. The song “Universe” by Hudson Moore floated through the air.
Next, Ashley’s maid of honor walked down and then, the 4 most adorable kiddos followed! There were 2 ring bearers and 2 flower girls that paved the way for Ashley to make her debut into the ceremony. We especially loved the tan fedoras the flowers girls wore!
For Ashley’s entrance on her dad’s arm, we played “I’m With You” by Vance Joy. She was radiant, as she walked down the aisle and joined hands with Tristan.
During the ceremony itself, this couple had a tree planting ceremony. For this, they each had a vase filled with water and another filled with soil. When it was time, they both poured their soil and water onto the roots of a sapling with the sentiment being that they would plant the young tree in their home’s backyard for it to grow and flourish, just like their marriage.
Following the tree planting ceremony, Ashley and Tristan exchanged custom vows and rings. Then, Aunt Jessica pronounced them husband and wife, and they sealed the deal with a kiss!
Upon the ceremony’s conclusion, the newlyweds signed their marriage license then posed for formal photos with their family. Then, we invited guests to take their seats under the reception tent. Once there, they oohed and aahed over the stunning boho wedding décor that awaited them!
After a delicious dinner, Ashley’s maid of honor delivered a heartfelt toast, and the new Mr. and Mrs. cut their cake. They then came together for their first dance, set to the tune of “Joy of my Life” by Chris Stapleton. The parent dances came next followed by mixing, mingling, and making memories.
But the evening didn’t end there!
Ashley and Tristan had a virtual visit from a very special guest. One of their closest loved ones is in the military. Being that he was deployed, he couldn’t physically attend the wedding. Luckily, they had the wonderful idea to video chat him from the reception. This could not have made the newlyweds any happier! We loved seeing their faces light up in this very special of moments.
As the evening wound down, Ashley and Tristan transitioned into the next phase. They were going to Glacier National Park for an adventure photo session! They hopped in their red Jeep and drove on over to the park to capture the most incredible couple portraits!
Glacier always makes for gorgeous backdrops, from the rushing waters to the towering pine trees! An adorable little deer even photo bombed a few of their pictures! As the sun began to set, Ashley, Tristan and their photographer found themselves at the foot of a lake with mountains surrounding the water. The twilight sky reflected in the lake, creating an infinite sort of look that made them seem like Heaven on Earth!
Their adventure photos turned out absolutely beautiful and they took our breath away when we first saw them!
Ashley and Tristan, I loved working with you for your microwedding with boho wedding décor! It was my honor and pleasure to help give you your dream day after a lifetime in the making! Thank you for welcoming me into your wedding planning journey and I wish you both all the joy in the world!
