For one of our incredible couples, Sara and Scott, their dream day was a whimsical wildflower wedding filled with vibrant colors, gorgeous settings and their closest people. Their big day is an excellent example of taking full advantage of all that Montana has to offer, as they had their wildflower wedding ceremony amongst the mountains and their reception at a nearby nature-inspired resort.

Sara and Scott wanted to have a micro wedding for their dream day, which entailed about 30 of their loved ones accompanying them to Montana. We planned for their wildflower wedding ceremony to take place within Glacier National Park at the Apgar Amphitheater and once they tied the knot, they would celebrate the day away at the nearby Haymoon Resort. This gave Sara and Scott the best of both worlds: having an intimate ceremony while still having a full-blown party afterwards!
When it came to their wildflower wedding design, we drew inspiration from the natural landscape in Montana. This meant utilizing a spectrum of bright and vivid colors, ranging from sky blue to coral to royal purple to honeysuckle yellow. We aimed to mirror the hues that can be found within Glacier during spring and summertime, which also served to reflect the pure bliss and excitement that was infectious on the day-of.
These were the primary inspirations throughout the planning process. Continue on to see how we brought it all to fruition!
Family is everything to Sara and Scott, so it was only natural for them to intentionally include special moments with their loved ones throughout the day. This started before the ceremony when Sara’s mom helped her get ready and then she and her dad did a first look together. Sara’s bridal look included her lace wedding gown, pearl and rhinestone studded cowgirl boots, and veil with colorful floral embroidery along the hem. We love how Sara’s wedding day attire showcased her personality and tied into the overall wildflower wedding theme!
It’s no wonder that when her dad was all smiles when he turned around to see her as a bride for the first time! As they embraced, we felt the rush of emotion that was tangible in the air between the two of them. Sara then presented him with a special gift in the form of a personalized tie to wear that day. This was a salmon colored tie with a picture on the back of Sara and her dad when she was a child. The words “I will always be your little girl” accompanied the image. Such a sweet and thoughtful memento!
When it was time for this wildflower wedding ceremony, everyone made their way to the Apgar Amphitheater in Glacier National Park. This site is perfect for a wedding because it has built-in, tiered seating and a stage with an arbor. You can choose to dress up the site with your own floral or fabric draping or leave it as is and let nature be the star.
That’s what we did with Sara and Scott! We let Glacier’s beauty shine through by having the mountains and lake serve as the ceremony backdrop. Theirs was a heartfelt and emotional ceremony with tears welling during their personal vows and their family being involved. Before we knew it though, they were pronounced husband and wife and shared their first married kiss! They then recessed up the aisle with their baby daughter in their arms, reveling in the fact that they were officially married!
Following the ceremony, the new Mr. and Mrs. took family and newlywed photos along the beach at the Amphitheater and in the Apgar Village area. Meanwhile, our owner and lead planner, Katie, ensured that everything for this wildflower wedding cocktail hour and reception at Haymoon Resort was ready to go. From the colorful floral in bud vases that dotted the reception tables to the organic floral meadow that sat at the base of the sweetheart table, Katie led the vendor team to get everything just perfect for this wildflower wedding celebration.
When guests arrived at the resort, they enjoyed appetizers of goat cheese tarts, bison wellington, and caprese skewers. They also sipped on Montana-inspired drinks that included a Flathead Cherry Old Fashioned and Huckleberry Limeade.
We also invited everyone to sign Sara and Scott’s unique guest book, which was a watercolor depiction of Glacier National Park. With the guests’ personal messages surrounding the painting, this made the perfect keepsake to decorate this couple’s new home together.
As cocktail hour drew to a close, Sara and Scott’s family consulted the “seeding” chart to find their reception seats. For this, we hung a variety of seed packets to a chicken wire frame along with guests’ escort cards. The wildflower seed packets doubled as wedding favors!
As this wildflower wedding reception kicked off, Sara and Scott shared their first dance to “I Choose You” by Forest Blakk. The toasts then followed before the dinner buffet opened. Did you know that part of our job as your wedding planner is to release tables if you have a buffet? This is an important but often overlooked job that entails letting each table know when it is their turn to go up to the buffet. Doing this ensures that the buffet line never gets too long and guests can stay seated and enjoy each other’s company until it’s time.
That evening, everyone enjoyed a meal of a deconstructed wedge salad, grilled beef tri-tip roast, salmon, mashed potatoes and green beans. The newlyweds then cut their wedding cake, which consisted of a pink champagne cake with vanilla cream. Cupcakes also accompanied the main cake, giving the guests multiple flavors to choose from. Yum!
Before the dance floor opened, we held a mock grand exit for Sara and Scott. Why have a mock exit before the end of the wedding? Some couples choose to do this if their photography coverage does not go until the reception’s conclusion. Other couples, like Sara and Scott, decide to do this so they can have a unique grand exit, like a bubble exit! Bubbles would be tough to see at night, so we planned to have their bubble exit when it was still light out. This made it so Sara and Scott could have their dream grand exit! Then, they got to go back and dance their hearts out and soak up every second of their wildflower wedding.
